2 held with Rs. 7.2 crore drugs

MOREH, 3rd Oct: Troops of 12 Assam Rifles of Khudengthabi Permanent Motor Vehicles Check Post have apprehended two persons and recovered large quantities of psychotropic drugs worth over Rs 7 crore on Wednesday.
According to sources, the troopers stopped an Eeco van for checking at about 7pm Wednesday during which 20,000 WY tablets and 275 packets containing 3.3 kg Brown Sugar were found hidden inside an onion bag and blanket bags carried in the vehicle.
Further verification revealed that the seized contraband drugs were for a passenger who was later identified as Paominlen Haokip (29) son of Otkhomang Haokip of Langnom village of Saitu division, Kangpokpi. The said WY tablets that would worth Rs 60 lakh in international market and Brown Sugar worth Rs 6.60 crore in international market were handed over to Moreh police along with the nabbed persons for further legal actions.
Meanwhile, a release of PRO IGAR (S) informed that two drug peddlers were apprehended after the drug consignment was found inside a Silver colour Eeco Van (DL04 AS 4404) driven by Jamminlian Vaiphei of Launching village. The recovered Brown Sugar weighed 3.336 Kg while the WY tablets numbered 20000. The drugs would be worth over Rs 7.2 crore, the PRO said.
