Drug peddler convicted, sentence hearing on Oct 8

IMPHAL, 1st Oct: The Special Judge NDPS (Fast Track Court) on Tuesday convicted one Md Suhabuddin (40), s/o Md Nizamuddin of Lilong Tairel Makhong, for selling drugs and fixed October 8 for the sentence hearing. Suhabuddin was apprehended by a team of 8 Assam Rifles at Noney during frisking/checking operation on January 20, 2017. The troopers recovered 19,000 pieces of N10 tablets and 8.60 kg of Spasmo Proxyvon (SP) capsules from his possession.
During Tuesday’s hearing of the case, government counsel Special PPM Raichand was locked in an intense argument with the defence counsels comprising Y Okendro and Sarwari Begum. Having perused presentations by both sides, the court convicted Sahubuddin of the charges while acquitting his wife Zuberia Begum (39). The Court then remarked that as per the observations made by the Supreme Court on cases concerning NDPS Act, a crime is often the result of a sudden thought, but drug trafficking is carried out with a well-thought out plan and self-vested interests meant to harm the society. As such, drug trafficking is a serious crime that is much worse than murder. Thus, the Court convicted Suhabuddin under Section 21 (C) and 22 (B) of NDPS Act 1985. It further fixed October 8 for the sentence hearing.
