Wildlife Week kicks off in Kangpokpi
KPI, 1st Oct: The 64th Wildlife Week celebration organised by Kangpokpi forest division under the theme ‘The Future of Wildlife is in our Hands’ commenced from Tuesday at Parizeau Maranatha Academy (PMA) Kangpokpi town.
The weeklong celebration aimed at protecting and propagating wildlife, got underway with PMA founder Thangzangul Touthang, DFO Kangpokpi Esther Laltankim Serto and Ch Lalit attending the inauguration programme as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Various competitions like on-the-spot painting, debating, quiz and slogan writing were organised during the inaugural ceremony of the celebration with the aim to focus on school children to generate mass awareness on wildlife conservation and their ecological and biodiversity values to mankind. Around 200 students from various educational institutions located within the district participated in the competitions.
Flagged off by Esther Laltankim Serto, an aware rally was also organised before the formal function at the school campus where students and DFO staffers as well as the local people participated.
RO Kangpokpi Sanayaima said that the top winners of quiz and debating competitions will represent the district at the state level competition to be on October 5 at office of forest and wildlife near Sanjenthong, Imphal.
The top five winners of the slogan writing competition will also be eligible for entry in the state level competition. ROs of all forest ranges within the jurisdiction of the district also attended the programme.
