In the state over 2 lakh people are eligible for the scheme as per socio economic caste census. However, only 56,000 and 45,000 elders are covered by the central and state pension schemes respectively. The government received nearly 20,000 applications for old age pension scheme and separate fund has been earmarked to cover them under the scheme.
Besides, the government is seeking Centre’s approval to cover the eligible elderly persons based on SECC data under the central scheme, he informed. The department has also been organising assessment camps for elderly persons for health problems for providing necessary aid under Rashtriya Bayushri Yojana, he said. Elderly persons from different districts, who participated in the programme, were presented woollen clothes and a grand feast
