Cong: Imposing uniform life, culture by BJP unacceptable
IMPHAL, 29th Sep: Maintaining that India is a land of unity in diversity with various cultures, races, languages and religions adorning the largest democracy in the world, former Union minister and All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Mukul Wasnik has asserted that the people would never accept imposition of a uniform life and culture by the government as it would only spell doom.
He was speaking at a booth level interaction programme organised by Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Block Congress Committee under the aegis of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) at the residence of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa BCC treasurer Soraisam Gopeshor located at Kodompokpi Maning Leikai on Sunday.
Addressing the gathering, Mukul Wasnik stated that the bifurcation of Jammu & Kashmir into two union territories by abrogating Article 370 by the BJP-led NDA government at the centre under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has come as a shocker to the country and the state is yet to limp back to normalcy due to the bifurcation.
He accused the BJP government of detaining leaders of the state in the name of maintaining law and order, saying that fate of the country has been put at stake with unleashing of such forceful action for which the people would never pardon the government.
Referring to the statement given by Union Home minister Amit Shah pertaining to the ‘One Nation, One Language’ theory conceived by the central government, he stated that the centre cannot impose Hindi language as the common language of the country based on the mere presumption that it is spoken by crores of people. Every state has its own language, culture and tradition but that does not mean that Hindi should be spoken by every citizen of the country, he enjoined.
The former Union minister averred that Indian culture is a composite culture with every state having their own culture and lifestyle but people of the country would never agree to imposition of a uniform life and culture by the central government for whatsoever reasons. The BJP-led government at the centre instead of imposing unacceptable rules and regulations should focus on employment generation, industrial development and economic empowerment and ways to resolve a slew of unsettled issues besetting the country, he stated.
Exuding confidence that Congress party would come back once again to power as its workers at grassroots level have been working hard by reaching out to the people, Mukul Wasnik stated that the act of BJP government in the state of chiding the Congress for unfounded reasons would never bear fruits as the people are well aware of the impeccable records and potential of the oldest political party of the country.
MPCC president Gaikhangam, who attended the programme, stated that the Congress would come back with a bang in Naoriya Pakhanglakpa assembly constituency in 2022 elections as the party has strengthened its workforce and won hearts of people of the constituency with its unbiased policies.
MPCC vice-presidents T Mangibabu and Kh Ratankumar; member Dr S Manaoton; secretary administration Soibam Jiten; Naoriya Pakhanglakpa BCC president Chaoba and several members of the committee also attended the programme.
