AMUCO extends help to Makhan fire victims
IMPHAL, 29th Sep: All Manipur United Clubs’ Organisation (AMUCO) reached out to victims of Makhan incident which occurred on September 17.
A team of AMUCO comprising president Nando Luwang, advisor R Yangsosong, vice presidents Sarat Golmei and NC Modhuchandra, general secretary Laishram Thoi and publicity secretary Brojen Irom handed over the relief items to functionaries of Makhan Union.
According to Makhan Union president Henry K Heni, altogether 18 houses were torched in the wee hours of September 17 without warning. Though identities of the perpetrators could not be established, government has been approached to nab them. Chief minister N Biren had assured to round up the culprits by October 5 and also assured to provide compensation to affected families, he said, adding that it was an intentional attack and life attempt. Altogether 63 members of 18 families affected by the act of arson are currently taking shelter at relief camp and some of them are ailing.
Meanwhile, Nando Luwang said that land dispute between Maram and Makhan led to the unfortunate incident and the organisation extended help to victims on humanitarian ground and in the spirit of living together. He recalled that AMUCO had extended similar help during the height of Naga-Kuki conflict and such humanitarian assistance will continue in future.
