Govt College teachers demand 7th CPC implementation, stage sit-in

STAFF REPORTER
IMPHAL, 26th Sep: Demanding implementation of the 7th UGC Pay and Regulation, 2018 for government college teachers; Federation of Government College Teachers’ Association (FEGOCTA), Manipur staged a sit-in protest at the community hall of Keishampat Leimajam Leikai here Thursday.
Speaking to newspersons on the sidelines of the sit-in, FEGOCTA president Dr Angocha Pishak Singh said that the 7th UGC pay scale had already effected in other states since July.
He then appealed to the state government to implement the pay scale in the state, failing which other forms of protests would be launched. Remarking that the state government often does not take action until protests are staged, the president said that if the 28 associations under the umbrella of the Federation were to undergo strikes or other agitations, it would severely affect the students.
Presently, the teachers had stated that they would be taking a mass casual leave to stage sit-in protests in their respective colleges if the government fails to give a concrete stand by September 23. If the government continues to ignore their demands, then a mass cease work strike would be launched from October 3 onwards, he cautioned.
