ADC-SH organises medical camp, plants saplings

KANGPOKPI, 26th Sep: As part of the ongoing Rashtriya Poshan Maah (National Nutrition Month) in the district, Autonomous District Council (ADC), Sadar Hills organised medical camp, tree plantation and various other activities at various places of the district on Thursday.
In the event organised at Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) Gamnom Saparmeina, ADC Sadar Hills chairman Haokholal Hangshing attended as chief guest while ADC vice chairman Thangjakam Misao and SHADC Kangpokpi chief executive officer T Manihar Singh were present as guest of honour and president respectively.
Speaking at the function, Haokholal said that India is celebrating the entire month of September as Rashtriya Poshan Maah under the theme “Complimentary Feeding” for the year 2019 to emphasise on the need for healthy nutrition.
The campaign is aimed at sensitising the public on healthy eating, addressing twin issues of malnutrition and under nutrition and obesity in some sections and also intensifying existing nationwide campaign for ‘malnutrition-free India’, he added.
The ADC chairman also said that ADC Sadar Hills has been taking an active role in celebration of Poshan Maah since India’s flagship programme was first launched in March 2018 by making an action plan in collaboration with the District Administration.
He then appealed to the student community and the general public to ensure grassroots level success of the mission in the district.
In his speech, Manihar said that Poshan Abhiyan is a multi-ministerial convergence mission with the vision to ensure attainment of malnutrition free India by 2022. Its objective is to reduce stunted growth in identified Districts of India with the highest malnutrition burden by improving utilisation of key Anganwadi services and improving the quality of Anganwadi services delivery, while also ensuring holistic development and adequate nutrition for pregnant women, mothers and children.
He further said that more activities would be taken up before the end of September such as food mela, etc., in the district. Apart from health check-up for the student community, promotion of drumsticks or local medicinal herbs and vegetables through plantation was also conducted during the programme held at EMRS, Gamnom Saparmeina.
Meanwhile, a medical camp was conducted at Keithelmanbi Junior High School in connection with Poshan Maah by ADC Sadar Hills, where over 236 students availed the medical benefits.
The School Management and Development Committee of Keithelmanbi Junior High School expressed heartfelt gratitude to CEO T Manihar Singh and his staff for conducting the medical camp under Rashtriya Poshan Maah at the school in the interest of the student community.
