FEGOCTA suspends strike
IMPHAL, 26th Sep: Follwing an understanding reached during a meeting with education minister and education department officials, Federation of Government College Teachers’ Associations (FEGOCTA), Manipur has suspended its cease work strike till October 21.
FEGOCTA has also appealed to teachers to resume normal duties till resumption of the next course of agitation, if any, apart from urging government college teachers’ fraternity to remain calm.
According to a statement, a delegation of the federation met education minister, commissioner (education) and other officials of the education department. During the meeting, the government representatives gave a written assurance to place the matter before the state cabinet within three weeks’ time.
Later, FEGOCTA leadership convened an emergency meeting and discussed thoroughly the written assurance given by government. Meanwhile, All Manipur College Teachers’ Association (AMCTA) too has suspended its proposed agitation. The association had planned to launch mass mobilisation stir from October 1.
According to an AMCTA statement, representatives of the association attended a meeting convened by education minister Thursday following an invitation from the government and discussed demands of college teachers thoroughly. An AMCTA executive meeting has also been convened on September 28.
