AMGSU celebrates foundation day, distributes prizes
KANGPOKPI, 25th Sep: All Manipur Gorkha Students' Union celebrated its 52nd foundation day at Charhajare community hall on Wednesday during which winners of the 2nd State Level Written Quiz Competition held on September 8 were felicitated.
The event was attended by SDC Kangpokpi T Shyam Kumar, AMGSU president LB Adhikari and Deputy Inspector of Schools (Kangpokpi) Lhingtinneng Singsit as chief guest, functional president and guest of honour respectively while MES/AI/ZEO (Kangpokpi) Demkhosei Haokip and Hari Maya Sangroula were present as special guests.
Speaking at the occasion, Shyam Kumar highlighted how life would change for the betterment in case the youngsters’ dedication and work hard to become IAS or MCS officers materialise.
He also explained that with the rapid advancement in information technology one could easily access reading materials from the internet.
The SDC also hailed the Gorkha community for their honesty, integrity and mental as well as physical strength.
In his address, LB Adhikari recounted about formation of AMGSU by 30 students of DM College on September 25, 2019 at War Cemetery, Dewlalane, Imphal.
"Their historic contributions to the students community particularly Gorkhas still inspire by everyone", he said and pledged that the Union will always extend cooperation to the government in tackling various issues including protection of the environment.
Further stating that the union will take proactive role in programmes associated with cleanliness drives, tree plantation, etc., Adhikari stressed the need for different students' bodies of the state to work together for the overall development of the communities and students.
The Union president also conveyed gratitude to students’ organisations namely KSO, TSA, AMSU, ATSUM, ANSAM and TKS Ukhrul for their support in the successful conduct of the Quiz Competition.
In their speeches, Demkhosei Haokip and Lhingtinneng Singsit called upon the students to focus on their studies as well as partake in different curricular activities to develop mind and body.
On the other-hand, Hari Maya Sangroula opined that the contemporary students are very fortunate that they have access to different media to enhance their knowledge and explore diverse opportunities compared to students of the past.
A total of 33 students who emerged triumphant in the 2nd Level Quiz Competition participated by 2635 students from 88 schools were felicitated on the occasion.
In the Category A (VI-VIII), the prize winners are Niran Rai of Roses English School (1st Position); Kritika Adhikari and Anisha Chhetry - both of Roses English High School, Kanglatongbi, and L Gravita Devi of Froebel English School, Kanglatongbi (joint 2nd Position) and M Premananda Singh of Sangai Hr. Sec. School (3rd position).
In the Category B (IX & X), the winners included Vijay Poudel of Froebel English School and Darsana Adhikari of Roses English School (joint 1st position); Benjamin Kipgen of SFS, Kangpokpi (2nd) and Ch Prameshwor Singh of Froebel English School and Shansang Chamroy of Savio High School, Ukhrul (joint 3rd position).
AMGSU Ukhrul and KPI-Toribari were conferred with the Best exam centre award for the systematic conduct and management of the Quiz programme.
