Awareness on quality seeds for organic agriculture held

KAKCHING, 23rd Sep: District Agriculture Officer (DAO), Chandel and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Chandel in association with Alumni Association of Agriculture College, Imphal organised a one-day awareness programme on ‘Quality Seeds for Organic Agriculture’ at Hanatham village in Chandel district on Monday.
The programme was organised under the sponsorship of Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) and ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre Imphal.
DC Chandel Krishna Kumar, ICAR Manipur Centre nodal officer of seed project Dr I Meghachandra, senior research scientist (Biotech) Dr O Gunamani and DAO Chandel Gladncy Monsang attended the programme as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
In the technical session, Dr Meghachandra spoke on ‘Quality Seeds & its Importance’; MOMA assistant project officer Dr L Jibit on ‘Present Status of Organic Farming in Manipur’; professor L Nabachandra on ‘Care and Management of Rice’; AAO Kh Nimaichand on ‘IPM/IDM in Rice’; AO L Sanatomba on ‘Conversion of Conventional Field for Organic Agriculture’; ICAR scientist (soil science) Dr T Basanta on ‘Soil Health Management for Organic Agriculture’; and Dr O Gunamani on ‘Scopes on Medicinal Plants’ as resource persons.
Spray pumps and other agricultural inputs were distributed to farmers and it was followed by an interaction session between farmers and agriculture scientists. Over 100 farmers including village chiefs and pastor
