Exclude bogus voters or face action: CM Biren tells BLOs
IMPHAL, 23rd Sep: In the backdrop of National Register of Citizens (NRC) update in Assam which aimed at identifying and deporting illegal migrants living in the state, chief minister N Biren has assured the people that necessary action will be taken against those Booth Level Officers (BLO) who insert the names of invalid voters in the voters’ list while updating the electoral roll to include or exclude voters.
The chief minister was speaking at the first anniversary of Ayushman Bharat, world's largest government-funded healthcare programme celebrated at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) auditorium here on Monday. The anniversary was organised jointly by State Health Agency, Manipur and National Health Mission, Manipur in collaboration with Directorate of Health Services. Ayushman Bharat was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on this day last year with the aim of bringing quality and affordable healthcare closer to the people of the country.
Addressing the gathering as chief guest, Biren maintained that the government is closely monitoring influx of illegal migrants into the state by taking up strong measures at check posts opened at border areas and at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport.
He stated that there is a need to observe the process of electoral roll updation to include and exclude names of electorates from the voters’ list and in this regard he appealed to the Booth Level Officers concerned to discharge their duty with utmost sincerity.
