Makhan Union suspends NH-2 bandh plan

IMPHAL, 23rd Sep : Makhan Union has suspended its proposed indefinite bandh on Imphal-Dimapur road from Monday midnight in protest against the government’s failure to arrest those involved in torching 18 houses near the bridge connecting Maram and Makhan villages in Senapati district on September 17 early morning. The bandh has been kept in abeyance following an assurance given by chief minister N Biren that necessary steps are being made to nab the arsonists at the earliest. Earlier, addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club here on Monday, Makhan Union president Henry K Heny said that Makhan villagers blocked the road on the day of the fateful incident demanding the government to arrest the arsonists but the road block stir was called off after government officials assured the villagers that the arsonists will be apprehended within 72 hours.
