Campaigns underway to create awareness on central projects
BPR, 22nd Sep: District administration of Bishnupur, Manipur Pollution Control Board and District Water and Sanitation Committee of PHED jointly organised a drive on cleanliness, plantation and plastic pollution as part of Swachhata Action Plan 2019-20 and Swachhata Hi Seva along Tiddim Road from Utlou to new mini secretariat complex, Bishnupur district on Sunday.
Oinam MLA and MPCB chairman L Radhakishore, DC Bishnupur Neeta Arambam, SP Priyadarshini Laishram, LDA project director L Bhagaton, Bishnupur Municipal Council chairperson L Maniyaima and Keinou GP Pradhan Ng Sovana led the drive, which was participated by department officials and members of different NGOs.
Highlighting the negative impacts of plastic waste materials, MLA Radhakishore said that single use plastics will be completely banned from October 2 and urged all to pile up plastic waste properly for picking up by government officials.
On the other hand, Ishok GP in association with Solid Waste Management Bishnupur launched solid waste management and single use plastic free village campaign in the areas under the GP located under Nambol AC in Bishnupur district on Sunday.
PHED Bishnupur EE L Gokulchandra, Ishok GP Pradhan W Deben, ward members and department officials as well as local people participated in the launch programme.
Speaking at the occasion, Gokulchandra urged the public to refrain from random disposal or burning of plastic waste while stating that the department would buy plastic waste from the public at the rate of Rs 10 to 15 per kg.
Pradhan W Deben also urged the public to support the initiative for making the GP free of single use plastics.
Lions Club of Ningthoukhong in association with District Hospital, Bishnupur also organised a cleanliness drive at the premises and surroundings of the hospital under Swachhata Hi Seva on Sunday.
The club also extended monetary assistance to the hospital authority on the occasion. While handing over the monetary aid, club secretary Yaiskullakpa RK said that the financial aid was provided for rendering service to patients from poor families, who visit the hospital for treatment.
Medical superintendent of the hospital Dr N Bino appealed to the public for their cooperation in making the hospital more efficient in providing healthcare services.
Stating that people from not only Bishnupur district but also from Senapati and Churachandpur districts visit the hospital, he drew attention of the authority concerned towards the need for upgrading the hospital into a 100-bedded hospital.
Later, tree saplings were planted inside the campus and outside the gate of the hospital by the participants.
THOUBAL: Shikhong Sekmai Municipal Council (SSMC) launched Swachhata Hi Seva along with “100% Coverage of Door to Door Collection and Source Segregation of Solid Waste Programme” as part of Swachh Survekshan League 2020 on Sunday.
The launch programme of Swachhata Hi Seva held at Shikhong Khunou Community Hall was attended by MAHUD commissioner M Joy, SSMC chairperson S Roma, MAHUD director Th Harikumar, PHED additional chief engineer L Swamikanta and executive officer of Shikhong Sekmai Municipal Council Ch Ningtamba Meitei as presidium members.
Addressing the gathering, M Joy highlighted that each and every member of the community have an equal role to play in the initiative of the Union government to ban plastic products. Policies were also formulated to ensure 100% door-to-door collection of waste and separate allotment of solid waste as part of the launching programme.
Distribution of two waste bins each to every household in the area was also carried out during the event.
