Naga issue, CAB serious threat to state: Dr Manaoton

IMPHAL, 22nd Sep: Asserting that the threat posed to Manipur in trying to solve the Naga issue cannot be undermined, MPCC member Dr S Manaoton has called upon the people of the state to stay alert and be ready to face any eventualities.
Addressing a Congress workers’ meet organised by Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Block Congress Committee at Mongsangei Mayai Leikai here on Sunday, Manaoton, who contested the last state assembly election on MPTC ticket from the constituency, said that the state is on the brink of facing severe crisis in the wake of implementing CAB and final solution to the Indo-Naga peace deal.
BJP northeast in-charge Ram Madhav recently said that the Centre will soon pass the CAB and implement it. In such a situation, the state government is giving hollow assurance to safeguard the state with NRC update. Once CAB is implemented, the state will become a safe haven for illegal migrants, who will further threaten the existence of the indigenous communities, Manaoton said.
On the other hand, the peace talk between Centre and NSCN-IM is nearing completion and there are heavy discussions in media over the possible outcome of the final solution. United Committee Manipur had also issued a public call to remain alert on the issue. Considering the recent activities of the NDA government, there are high possibilities of the Centre keeping CSO leaders under house arrest to contain public uprising in case of any clause in the final solution, which is not in the favour of the state and its integrity, he said.
Despite boasting of its transparency, the BJP government is keeping everybody in dark regarding the final solution to the Naga issue. Though Manipur has no say in the agreement between Centre and NSCN-IM, but the final solution must not affect the state and its integrity under any condition. With several possibilities of Manipur getting the impact doing rounds in media, the BJP led government in the state is remaining silent without any worry but instead busy in its in-fighting, he pointed out.
On the other hand, the country’s economy is in its worst position and yet the NDA government is busy making up its political image. In its last resort to cope with the economy slowdown, the Centre is devising several strategies to collect heavy taxes from the public and the policy is evident in the new Motor Vehicle Act. The GST system is also a major burden for the public. Instead of working for the welfare of the public, the NDA government is working towards the welfare of the government, Manaoton alleged.
In a bid to bring better governance, public entrusted BJP with power and today price of local rice has skyrocketed under the BJP government. It is high time for the public to rethink how the BJP government is ruling the state and the nation, he said.
He further said that he is not yet the public representative of the constituency but he has already prepared a vision document for the constituency in case he is elected by the people. However, it is too early to disclose his visions but will definitely put it out in the public domain near the election.
He, however, said that Zenith Academy at Sangaiprou will be made an institute where children from poor families of the constituency could get education free of cost if he gets elected. MPCC secretary (administration) S Jiten, Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Block Congress Committee president S Chaoba and other party workers attended the meet. Several veteran party workers were also felicitated during the meet.
