Kamson Group expelled, statements baseless: ZUF

STAFF REPORTER
IMPHAL, 22nd Sep: Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) home secretary James Kamei has stated that the press release issued to local dailies on September 20 and 21 in the name of its chairman Raitu Chawang had no approval of the chairman and is invalid.
Issuing a statement in this regard, James said that S Kamson and his group had been expelled from the proscribed ZUF and as such, any statement issued by the defected group in the outfit’s name is not related to the chairman and is baseless. He further stated ZUF had not set up any enquiry committee to look into the case of missing arms and ammunition of the outfit, as had been claimed by the defected group.
James continued that the defected group was advised many times to surrender themselves for violating the constitution of the outfit by indulging in anti-party activities. As they failed to comply with the instructions, they were expelled from the outfit. However, instead of repenting their mistakes, the defected group accused ZUF of extorting money from political parties during the recent MP election, which is false. Clarifying that ZUF cadres and officials were not part of the election in any way, the home secretary alleged that S Kamson and his group were the one who extorted Rs 5 lakh to support NPF.
“ZUF is not associated with any Kuki outfits. Such baseless statements are attempts to bring about another Kuki-Naga clash”, he stated.
The release further stated that ZUF chairman Raitu Chawang and general secretary Jianchui Kamei were arrested by the police in August 2018 and were jailed from September 2018 to March 2019. During their absence, S Kamson who was the vice chairman, was tasked to look after all official administration of the group. However, he took advantage of the situation and started to lead ZUF for his own self interests, before defecting from the outfit. S Kamson and his group were caught red handed by the outfit for colluding with Indian security forces and the disappearance of 15,000 bullets and Rs 25 lakh of the outfit’s funds in 2012 from Longmai Part-2. Assam Rifles apprehended Kamson and one Dihem Longmai in 2013 for extortion-related activities along with four guns of the outfit. In 2014, security forces killed 6 cadres of ZUF and seized huge cache of ammunition, while the duo was trying to extort money at Lungako and Nungba, it added.
On top of this, one Dainilung Kamei of Chingkao village was brutally beaten up in 2017 on the order of the duo, in connection with their extortion activities. Under their supervision, ZUF private Lucky Golmei and Chaginchounganpou Phaomei were lynched in Assam while trying to extort money under the command of SK Thaimai. Furthermore, the arrest of ZUF chairman Raitu Chawang and general secretary Jianchu by police between Silchar and Shillong was conspired by S Kamson, the release contended.
