VDF jawan rescues kid from fatal accident in Kpi

KPI, 22nd Sep: A Village Defence Force (VDF) jawan posted at Kangpokpi police station and attached to SP Kangpokpi as driver saved the life of a minor boy, who met with an accident with his father on Friday evening.
The accident occurred along National Highway 2 on Friday around 6:30 pm at a spot in between Kangpokpi and Changoubung when the father-son duo fell down into a gorge with the autorickshaw driven by the father.
The father was killed at the spot while his six-year-old son was stuck inside the auto with injuries and fear for his life before the VDF jawan came to his rescue. The deceased father has been identified as Santosh Thakur (36) son of Pasuram Thakur of Tujang Vaichong presently residing at Kangpokpi Ward No 7 and his son as Rahul Thakur. Santosh worked as an auto driver operating between Kangpokpi town and adjoining areas and was the sole bread winner of the family.
SP Kangpokpi Hemant Pandey said that on Friday around 6:30 pm he got information of the accident and condition of the minor boy. He immediately informed his driver VDF Thangneihao who was on his way back after dropping him. The VDF jawan rushed to the spot, climbed down the gorge and managed to rescue the child but found the father already dead.
“I really appreciate my driver VDF Thangneihao for his courage and bravery in rescuing the minor boy apart from showing exemplary service with sincerity and obedience. Indeed it’s a proud moment not only for Kangpokpi police but for the entire Manipur police as it will serve as an inspiration for all towards humanity”, the SP added.
Later, Kangpokpi Town Committee assisted the bereaved family in taking the body of the driver to his native village.
