Makhan rage: CM calls for peaceful settlement
IMPHAL, 21st Sep: Noting that tension prevailing in Makhan and Maram areas in Senapati district due to a land dispute has been causing severe inconveniences to the civilian population, chief minister N Biren assured that the government is taking up necessary steps other than restriction on entry of people in the villages and imposition of prohibitory orders under CrPC 144 in a bid to settle the dispute.
The government has already held talks with representatives of one of the villages and efforts are being made to meet representatives of the other village to sort out the differences between them. A ministerial team is planning to visit the villages to take stock of the prevailing situation, he added.
Meanwhile, Senapati district magistrate has imposed restriction under CrPC 144 within 1 Km radius from Lairouching to Makhan Lovadziingho along the National Highway 2, thus restraining gathering of five or more persons and carrying of lethal weapons and objects that could be used for offensive acts. According to an order issued by district magistrate Somorjit Salam, the restriction has been imposed in the light of the incident which took place on September 17 where unknown miscreants burned down houses located in between Maram and Makhang along National Highway 2, thus creating communal tension and posing threat to peace and harmony in the area.
