CM orders no pay for absentee employees
IMPHAL, 21st Sep: Chief minister N Biren paid a surprise visit to the secretariat office on Saturday around 1.30 pm and found a whopping number of 223 employees absent from duty.
The absentee employees, according to source, had neither taken official leave nor cited any valid reason for skipping the day’s duty.
The CM along with chief secretary Dr J Suresh Babu inspected the secretariat office and expressed serious concern over the absence of employees in the most important office of the state. He then directed the chief secretary to take up appropriate disciplinary actions against the employees.
Consequently, in an order, the CS has granted extraordinary leave without pay for one day to all the 223 employees, who were found absent from the office at 1.45 pm without authorisation. The order also instructed DDO concerned of GAD to personally take responsibility for deduction of salary for one day from the month of September, 2019.
Though the source declined to comment reason for such a large number of employees not reporting for duty, when this daily queried whether such unprecedented absence is for the first time, it did not ruled out possibility of employees taking undue advantage of the bandh called by an outlawed organisation. Interestingly, both flanks of the Imphal-Moreh road in front of the Secretariat office that stretches from the Imphal Post office till the eastern gate of first MR wore a deserted look though the same section normally remains choc-a-bloc with vehicles of employees and visitors alike on any working days.
