Meira Paibis threaten stir over fund misuse

CORRESPONDENT
BPR, 19th Sep: Serving September 30 as deadline for recovering and utilising the misappropriated funds for several developmental projects in Moirang assembly constituency, Moirang Kendra Apunba Meira Paibi Ima Lup (MAMPIL) has warned of launching different types of agitation from the next day onwards if the demands are not honoured.
Addressing a press meet at Moirang Khouru Mandap on Thursday, MAMPIL secretary N Thaba said that the association had arrived at an understanding with the PWD additional chief engineer-II on September 17, 2018 in which the officer assured to take up road development work as soon as the funds are sanctioned. The matter of misappropriation of fund meant for several development projects including road development is a serious breach of trust and lack of commitment and sincerity on the part of the government officials.
Following the report, they met the assistant engineer of PWD Moirang office on September 9 this year and the latter agreed to conduct a joint assessment of the project sites on September 12. But contrary to the agreement, the assistant engineer gave misleading report to police. Consequently, the matter was resolved after the officer apologised for his action to her and MAMPIL president Padamo and KEMKAL president Y Surjit Khuman, Thaba informed.
She further said that they submitted a memorandum to the chief minister on November 2 last year. For the second time, they submitted a memorandum to the chief minister on Thursday with the demands for transfer of the assistant engineer and befitting disciplinary actions against him; early completion of the vigilance investigation against EE PWD Bishnupur and personal secretary of Moirang MLA; road renovation of Moirang Lamkhai to Sendra Road; improvement of CHC, schools and colleges in Moirang AC; and transfer of AE of PHED Moirang and regular safe drinking water supply in the constituency.
Demanding the government to fulfil the demands by September 30, she said that the association along with people of the constituency will launch different types of agitation from the next day onwards if the government fails to take up any initiative towards fulfilling their demands by the deadline.
Regarding the arrest of Moirang MLA’s personal secretary H Boyai, she said that the reason for targeting Boyai only while leaving aside active workers of the MLA smells fishy. She then urged the vigilance department to investigate the matter thoroughly and bring out the truth to the public at the earliest. Leaders of MAMPIL and Kege Moirang Kanba Apunba Lup (KEMKAL) were also present at the press meet.
