Be eyes and ears of police: SP Ibomcha to public
THOUBAL, 19th Sep: SP Thoubal Dr S Ibomcha has called upon the public to extend cooperation to the police in the drive against drugs and alcohol while appealing to all to be eyes and ears of the police to make the drive a successful one.
He was speaking at a felicitation function hosted in his honour and the district police by Ningol Club Heirok, CADA Thoubal district, CITY Club Heirok, PODA and Youth Development Club, Heirok Litan Thong Wangma to felicitate Dr S Ibomcha and his team at CITY Club ground at Heirok Part 2 on Thursday. The district police team was felicitated in acknowledgement of the extensive drive against drugs and alcohol carried by the police in Thoubal district, which resulted in seizure of huge quantities of drugs and liquor and busting of manufacturing units. The organisers presented shawl and memento to SP Dr S Ibomcha, additional SP (ops) Sachidananda Soibam, CDO Thoubal OC N Sadananda and Thoubal PS OC N Jadumani during the function.
Addressing the gathering, Ibomcha said that the drug menace has become a key issue in the state and police are committed to save the younger generation. Stating that police need the support and cooperation from the public in order to achieve the target of tackling the devilish intentions of unscrupulous elements, he also conveyed that police are encouraged by the firm stand of the government towards the issue.
Moreover, support from the public is a big moral boost for them, he said while urging the public to become eyes and ears of police so that the menace of drug could be eradicated from the society.
DC Thoubal Nongmaithem Bandana, who attended the programme as chief guest, said that it is a must for the public to appreciate and support the initiative taken up by the district police against drugs and intoxicants. However, police alone cannot resolve the issue as cooperation from the public is of prime importance in achieving the objective of the drive. She also urged parents to constantly remind their children to stay away from drugs and intoxicants.
Maintaining that incidents of crimes against women and children occur often in the district, she called for joint efforts from the district administration, police and public to check such crimes.
AMWJU president Bijoy Kakchingtabam, who also attended the function, lauded the district police and SP Dr S Ibomcha for their drive against drugs and intoxicants, which threaten the Manipuri society right from the roots. Due to presence of certain elements who are simply infatuated with amassing wealth at the expense of the younger generation many talented youths get trapped in the vicious cycle of substance abuse consequently posing serious threat to the future pillars of the society, he noted and stressed the need for joint efforts to root out drug menace from the soil of the state.
Social welfare deputy director (children programme) Konsam Saroja, CADA HQ president Hijam Priyokumar and Editors’ Guild Manipur president Khogendra Khomdram were also present at the function as guests of honour.
Mention may be made here that the district police busted a heroin manufacturing unit at Moijing Awang Leikai on August 17 and seized heroin worth Rs 116.6 crore along with other incriminating items. On August 24, the district police also seized WY tablets worth Rs 400 crore from Phoudel Keirambi.
