24-hour shutdown in Moirang, CrPC clamped

BISHNUPUR, 18th Sep: A 24-hour total shutdown was called at Moirang on Wednesday to protest the arrest of Moirang MLA P Sharatchandra’s personal secretary Hemam Boyai Singh (51), son of late H Chindum Singh by the Vigilance Department on September 16 around 7.25 pm from Sangaiprou crossing.
Meanwhile, Moirang District Magistrate has enforced restrictions under Section 144(2) of CrPC in and around Moirang Municipal Council area.
A sit-in protest against the arrest was staged at Moirang on Tuesday during which BJP Moirang Mandal general secretary (Organisation) Maibram Biren Singh announced the total shutdown from 4 am of September 18 till 4 am of September 19 in Moirang.
In support of the shutdown call, roads were blocked from early morning in various parts of Moirang on Wednesday.
But the agitators were dispersed by a police team led by Bishnupur SP Priyadarshini Laishram following the invocation of Section 144(2) of CrPC.
The SP assessed various areas of the constituency to check any incident but shops and banks remained closed at Moirang Lamkhai and Moirang Bazar while passenger transport service resumed only after 10 am and schools recorded minimal attendance.
