Efforts on to replace single-use plastics: Biren
IMPHAL, 14th Sep: In connection with the upcoming birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17, BJP Manipur Pradesh launched a weeklong observance of ‘Sewa Saptah’ campaign at BJP office, Canchipur on Saturday.
As part of the campaign launch, Chief Minister N Biren donated blood during a blood donation camp.
Speaking to newspersons, Biren said that the weeklong campaign would include campaigns against single-use plastics, cleanliness, etc. He revealed that a plastic water jar would be installed at his office chamber, from which any minister or MLA can drink water with a steel glass and the earlier trend of using plastic water bottles during meetings would be discontinued.
He further said that cloth bag manufacturing entrepreneurs and industrialists have been mobilised to make the campaign a success. A meeting would soon be convened where discussion would be held on how much materials could be produced to replace plastics, he added. Highlighting the various works taken up by PM Modi, Biren said that PM Modi’s thinking of putting public welfare first should be followed.
He continued that efforts should be made to prioritise the culture of public service and urged those at Mandals, Districts, ADC, Gram Panchayat and Zilla Parishad levels to make the weeklong campaign a success.
Later, CM Biren along with seven BJP OBC members and party workers donated blood at a blood donation camp held as part of the launch function.
Minister Th Shyamkumar, MLAs Th Satyabrata, Ksh Biren, O Lukhoi, A Dingo, Dr S Ranjan Singh and BJP Manipur Pradesh president in-charge Salam Joy also attended the function.
