“Dancing Drummers” listed for DD National Award
IMPHAL, 12th Sep: “Dancing Drummers”, a fusion music production of Rhythms of Manipur based on the Manipuri traditional drum Langden and produced by Doordarshan Kendra, Imphal has been selected for the prestigious best music programme in the 12th Doordarshan Annual Award.
In a statement, Rhythms of Manipur secretary Rajkumar Sanatomba Singh informed that the awards presentation ceremony would be held on September 16 at New Delhi.
The secretary also informed that teleplay ‘IAS Linthoi’ has been selected for the 12th National Doordarshan award in Tele play category. Both the music and Tele play programmes were produced by Thoudam Brajabidhu, programme Executive of DDK Imphal and Laishram Milanjit Singh is the music composer of the “Dancing Drummers”.
Leichal Manipuri modern song, Engallei teleplay and Dashavatar Manipuri classical dance also produced by DDK Imphal with Thoudam Brajabidhu as producer had won national award in their respective categories in the 11th National Doordarshan competition, the statement added.
The cash award components of the earlier awards were utilised in creating outdoor sets inside the DDK Imphal complex. The shooting of the fusion music “Dancing Drummer” was done in one of the outdoor sets, it maintained.
It is said that “Dancing Drummers”, one of the finest productions of the Rhythms of Manipur was earlier showcased at the prestigious Delhi International Art Festival as well as at Laos and Port Spain in 2017 during the international tours conducted under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Culture and Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). ‘The Journey’, another fusion music production of Rhythms of Manipur had also won the prestigious Doordarshan national award in 2010.
