CHRONICLE BUREAU IMPHAL, 25th Sep: Muvanlai Athletics put their slow start to the State League behind them by roaring to a 5-3 win over NISA, while AIM swept aside YPHU 3-0 in Monday’s fixtures.
Muvanlai pulled off a quick turnaround from an early deficit, pumping in four goals in the first half as Letmingou led their stunning fightback.
NISA swang into action barely three minutes from kick-off and moved ahead but Muvanlai responded in a matter of three minutes, reversed the scoreline in a span of seconds and tripled their lead before halftime.
It was Dayananda who registered the first shot on goal for NISA in the 3rd minute only to be cancelled by Haolengou’s 6th-minute equaliser.
Muvanlai then never looked back as Haoginlen overturned the scoring with a goal that he struck in seconds after Haolengou’s equaliser.
Then Letmingou took charge of the frontline assault with flashes of brilliance that yielded two more goals before the break for his side.
He made it 3-1 in the 24th minute and further stretched their advantage in the 33rd minute to ensure Muvanlai were three goals ahead of their opponents before the halftime whistle.
After the interval, it was the turn of Lalsiemthang who rounded off their haul in the 56th minute and put his team beyond the reach of NISA who scored two goals in the last 12 minutes but still came up short against Muvanlai. It was Surjakanta (78th) and Jolly (90th) who netted a goal each in vain.
The other game later saw AIM stag a second-half surge to emerge 3-0 winners against YPHU.
After a barren first half, W Ngouba broke the deadlock in the 51st minute and Th Vandona made it 2-0 in the 73rd minute before L Monish tripled their lead six minutes later to close out the game.
