MU goofs up, 3rd rank holder declared failed
THOUBAL, 16th Jul: After being declared failed in the 6th semester examination for B Sc Geology honours conducted by Manipur University, Arina Begum of Waikhom Mani Girls’ College, Thoubal turned out to be 3rd position holder of the whole state.
Addressing a press meet in this regard at the office premises of DESAM Thoubal district council here on Tuesday, its president Surjakumar Oinam said that Asina Begum was declared failed in the examination, whose results were declared on July 1 despite having passed the examination and emerging as the third position holder. The matter came to light when some students came across a corrigendum issued by Controller of Examination in-charge of the university dated July 12 on the notice board of the university. Interestingly, the MU authority has not relayed the information to the college principal till date.
The examination for the particular subject was appeared by only 59 students and having such errors in declaring the results is very unfortunate. The matter is not about a few marks but the huge difference between failed and 3rd position. It is a serious case of possible wilful negligence, he said while casting doubts over the results of other examinations conducted by the university.
Due to her examination results, the student had not applied for admission for higher study, he said and asked who will be held responsible for her academic loss. He then demanded an enquiry into the matter and appropriate actions against the responsible officials.
Arina Begum said that she feels heartbroken when she was declared fail despite her good performance in the examination and now she could not get admission for higher study due to the error.
She had also approached the college authority over the examination results, and appealed to all concerned to take up certain measures to prevent such issues in future.
