IMPHAL, 10th July: High Court of Manipur has asked the state government to submit details of sand and stone quarrying activities and permission if granted by the government in respect of all rivers in the state.
The additional AG produced documents to show that action has been taken to check illegal sand and stone quarrying activities and stated that the government has not given any permission to any person or unit for any type of quarrying activities in Thoubal River. The bench of justice Kh Nobin Singh also directed the government to give details and full particulars of vehicles impounded in connection with transportation of illegally extract sand or stone in the next hearing on July 31. The court further directed the government that all vehicles, which are engaged in transportation of illegally extracted sand or stone in all river beds, should be seized. If the offender wants release of the vehicle involved in the offence, the offender has to file an application before the Court as miscellaneous case in PIL No 5 of 2019, which will be considered on its own merit.
