Security tighthened at Moreh border area
IMPHAL, 4th July: Security measures in the border town of Moreh have been tightened up from early Thursday morning with all border gates except Indo-Myanmar Friendship Gate No. 2 closed and cross-border movement of people strictly restricted. Personnel of 43 Assam Rifles sealed all border gates at Moreh except Indo-Myanmar Friendship Gate No. 2 from early morning. However, cross-border movement of people at this gate was allowed after strict checking of identification documents and Myanmar citizens crossing into Indian side were issued token (border pass). However, sudden sealing of border gates except one caused much hardship to smalltime traders of both India and Myanmar as no prior information was given. A reliable source informed that security forces were able to recover illegal contraband drugs during border sealing though it might have caused hardship to traders doing business across the border.
