CHRONICLE BUREAU IMPHAL, 14th Aug: Three games remaining but the Imphal East Super Division Football League already has RAU as the League winners following their 3-0 hammering of NIVSO on Monday.
With the result, RAU garnered a total of 23 points from 10 matches, more than enough for the team to lift the MK Ghanendrajit Super Division Football League 2017 trophy. N Leibakchao scored either side of half-time to help his team finish their campaign on a resounding note. Leibakchao opened the scoring 11 minutes into the game as RAU never relinquished their dominance throughout while keeping NIVSO off the scoreboard. RAU went into the second half leading 1-0 and they didn’t take long for their remaining two goals after the restart.
Thangngam stretched their advantage to 2-0 in the 55th minute before Leibakchao completed their collection with his second goal three minutes later. In other fixture, SAK inflicted an 8-2 rout on SSC in the day as Sangker struck a treble. Th Aboy started the goal rush with a 4th-minute opener and Sangker doubled their lead in the 6th minute before Aboy was on target again to make it 3-0 in the 9th minute. Then M Romi (13th) and Bitamkumar (18th) continued the momentum before Sangker struck twice (28th, 45th) to finish his hat trick. Bikram wrapped up the scoring for SAK with his 72nd –minute effort. Mocha and Chiharring got a goal each in their side’s defeat.
