DMC students protest admission spree

STAFF REPORTER IMPHAL, 8th Aug: Along with shutting down the principal's office block of the college, students of DM College of Arts staged sit-in protest in front of the main gate on Tuesday denouncing admission of more students despite commencement of the academic session.

Students launched the stir after the director of education (U) attempted to admit more students even as the new academic session of first semester of different subjects commenced on July 4 following the admission of around 1000 students on merit basis.

Soon after learning about the attempt to admit more students despite lack of adequate infrastructure, the students gathered and shut down the principal's office and staged sit-in. Oinam Gandhi, a fifth semester student told media persons that at least 1000 students were selected on merit basis for admission in first semester of different subjects. The new academic
session started despite infrastructure inadequacies but director of education (U) is trying to admit more students, he said, while demanding withdrawal of the order to admit more students and avert more intense agitation.
