Meiraba Luwang retains U-19 national title

IMPHAL, 26th May: Maisnam Meiraba Luwang has retained the U-19 Boys Singles title of Yonex Sunrise All India Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament-2019 held at Chennai, Tamil Nadu from May 23-26.
It has been Meiraba's 3rd consecutive title win at national level tournament for U-19 Boys Singles event as he had won previous editions at Vijaywada and Bangalore.
The tournament was organised by Tamil Nadu Badminton Association under the aegis of Badminton Association of India (BAI) and a total of 1195 players from across the country including 599 in the Boys Singles took part in the event.
The tournament was selection tournament for Junior India Team for the upcoming Asia junior championship-2019 (U-19 Team & Individual) to be held at Suzhow, China from July 20-28.
In the 1st round, Meiraba beat Shubham Patel of Rajathan (21/18:21/13) while in the 2nd round he defeated Bharat Raghav of Haryana (21/8:23/21). In the 3rd round, he defeated Rohan Gurbani of Maharashtra (21/11:21/11). In the quarter final, Meiraba beat Iman Sonowal of Assam (24/22: 21/16) while in the semi-final he beat Sathish Kumar K (Rank 4) of Tamil Nadu (21/13:21/11).
In the final, Meiraba beat Aakash Yadav (Rank 5) of Delhi (21/9:12/7 Retired).
Another Manipuri lad K Dinku Singh also won Mixed Doubles and finished runners-up in the Boys Doubles. He paired with Ritika Thaker of Maharashtra and won Mixed-Double title. In the Boys Doubles final, Dinku and partner Kh Manjit Singh lost to the pair of Ishaan Bhatnagar (Punjab) and Vishnuvardhan Goud P of Telangana by 21/18:21/12 points.
In the U-19 girls'singles final, Telanganas No. 5 seed Samiya Imad Farooqui comprehensively beat Delhi's No. 16 seed Aashi Rawat in the final.
