Manipur pummel Telangana in Jr girls national football c’ship
CHRONICLE BUERAU IMPHAL, 29th July 2017: Manipur got off to a resounding start as they humbled Telangana in their campaign opener in the Junior Girls National Football Championship at Barabati Stadium, Odisha on Saturday.
Roja led the onslaught in a 16-0 goal feast against their tame opponents, scoring eight goals. Daya, who also impressed on the pitch with a treble, opened the floodgates with her 3rd-minute effort. Roja upped the pace in the 17th minute before Sultana made it 3-0. The state girls kept the momentum going with another
three goals in a matter of 11 minutes to round off their six-goal blitz at halftime. Roja was in action again for her team’s fourth goal (29th) as Daya found their fifth (39) before Roja completed her hat trick just before the break. With already enjoying insurmountable lead, Manipur were in no mood to relent in the second half as they kept raining goals on their opponents.
Roja led the second-half barrage with five goals (46th, 61st, 74th, 76th, 80th), followed by Kristina and Babysana who both scored a double and Daya got her third to give Manipur an overwhelming win in their first match.
