CAB choke tops CPI election pledge
IMPHAL, 10th Apr: With the promise of blocking enforcement of Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) permanently, Communist Party of India (CPI) Manipur state unit released its manifesto for the 17th Lok Sabha election.
The manifesto containing 24 points was released at party’s office at Irawat Bhawan, Rup Mahal Tank here Wednesday.
Addressing media persons after releasing the manifesto, CPI Manipur State Council secretary L Sotinkumar said the manifesto incorporates common issues faced by the state and it was drafted not by CPI alone but after discussion with all Left parties.
CAB tops the agenda in the manifesto which also include various issues like border pillar, territorial integrity, farmers’ problems, student’s plight and restoration of special category status of northeast states scrapped by BJP government, he said adding that CPI will fight BJP’s pledge that the latter will enforce CAB if it retains power at the Centre. According to Sotinkumar, the upcoming Lok Sabha election will be a battle between Secular Democratic Force (SDF) and Hindu fascists and declared that a new government of SDF would come after the election. He then appealed to people to support the party’s Inner Manipur candidate Dr M Nara so that he could serve the people and implement points listed in the manifesto. He also stressed the need for throwing out BJP government at the Centre saying that it ruled the country with its neo-liberal economic policy. The manifesto also pledged to mount pressure on the Central government for greater autonomy to Manipur apart from vowing to repeal AFSPA and amend Article 3 of Indian Constitution. Other agenda listed in the manifesto include granting full right to voters of eight aassembly constituencies of valley area which falls under Outer Manipur parliamentary constituency, formation of highway protection force to guard the national highways, implementation of Manipur People Bill and law to stop racist attack against NE people in mainland India. Many party leaders were present at the event.
Meanwhile, Dr M Nara reached out to women vendors and shop owners of Khurai Lamlong Keithel on Wednesday and sought their votes and blessings for the Lok Sabha election. Accompanied by CPI leaders like Rk Amusana, K Bimol, Th Inao, N Promila and K Victor as well his supporters, Dr Nara visited each and every woman vendor and shop owner at Lamlong Keithel and its surrounding area. The business persons and commoners blessed Dr Nara and extended best wishes to him while hoping that he could bring solutions to major issues like border dispute, Citizenship Amendment Bill, Framework Agreement. They further stressed that Dr Nara should raise voices of the people in the parliament if he is elected as MP.
