CHRONICLE BUREAU
IMPHAL, 3rd Mar: TRAU FC pulled off a convincing 2-0 win over Jamshedpur FC (reserves) to close in on group leaders Chhing Venga FC in 2nd Division League. Their second victory at home on Sunday at Khuman Lampak underlined TRAU’s resilience after suffering two defeats in their first two home games.
With the result, the Imphal-based club are now just one point adrift of Chhinga Veng, who have 13 points from five matches. TRAU, on the hand, have played six games.
The home side scored in both halves as Pricewill Olariche Emeka played a part in both goals that came courtesy of Kivi Zhimomi and Joseph Mayowa Olaleye.
TRAU, however, were made to work hard by their opponents for their goals.
After toiling for full first 45 minutes, Emeka set up Zhimomi with a well-timed pass and the later calmly turned in the opener in the dying seconds of first-half injury time.
After the break, the hosts had to fend off a flurry of raids from Jamshedpur and, at the same time, find their way to double their advantage that only came in the final minutes of the contest.
After enduring some threatening efforts from the visitors, TRAU finally put themselves firmly in control of the game when Emeka provided another sublime assist picking out Zhimomi, who made no mistake in sending the ball into the net in the 85th minute.
With only few minutes left on the clock, the hosts didn’t have any trouble defending their 2-0 lead and ran out dominant winners.
