TRAU, UKB to face off for Manoranjan football title

IMPHAL, 20th Feb: TRAU and UKB will battle it out for the trophy of the 9th Shaheed Manoranjan Singh Memorial Football Tournament, following their semifinal triumphs on Wednesday.
The first semifinal was a one-sided affair as TRAU inflicted a 5-0 thrashing on DMRAO.
Kivi kick-started the goal rush after scoring in the 11th minute as Krishnanda doubled the lead in the 24th minute before Naocha further stretched their advantage with an injury-time goal just before the halftime whistle.
An own goal by Jiban minute further compounded his team’s woes as the scoreline read 4-0 after 51 minutes of play.
Then Meiraba put the game beyond doubt when he completed their five-goal haul in the 78th minute as TRAU enjoyed a smooth passage into the final.
Riding on Thanggoulen’s double, UKB fought off an early deficit to snatch a 2-1 win over AMOFA for the title showdown with TRAU on Thursday, February 21.
AMOFA took barely seven minutes from kickoff to move ahead through H Romen. The team, however, failed to improve in the ensuing minutes of exchanges.
UKB’s spirited comeback efforts were finally paid off when Thanggoulen drew level for the team in the 44th minute.
Then he produced another individual quality to drill home his second goal that eventually made all the difference.
