CAB: CLP team meets Sharad Pawar; NE MPs protest
IMPHAL, 6th Feb: The team of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) which is camping at New Delhi met NCP leader Sharad Pawar on Wednesday seeking the party’s support in defeating the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 in the Rajya Sabha.
On the other hand, Rajya Sabha MPs from northeast states excluding that of BJP staged protest demanding withdrawal of CAB in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi inside the Parliament campus on Wednesday.
The MPs termed the Bill as discriminatory and unconstitutional while adding that it will affect the northeast states socially, culturally and economically. Maintaining that BJP should not put on risk the existence of northeast region’s indigenous communities, the MPs demanded the NDA government to withdraw the Bill.
Meanwhile, the CLP team led by former chief minister O Ibobi met Sharad Pawar at the latter’s official residence in the presence of NCP MP Supriya and apprised them about the fallouts of the contentious bill in the northeast people and its indigenous population.
