Moreh CDOs recover heroin worth Rs 1.3 cr, arrest one
MOREH, 4th Feb: A team of Moreh CDOs led by DSP (CDO) Moreh Thomas Thokchom and CDO Moreh in-charge K Ibungobi intercepted a Maruti Suzuki Brezza and seized 50 packets of heroin powder each weighing 13 grams.
The SUV was intercepted by the CDO team at a mobile check point established based on specific information about transportation of contraband items from Moreh towards Imphal. The heroin powder weighing 650 gram in total worth around Rs 1.3 crore in the international market.
The contraband drugs were found concealed inside the doors of the driver and co-driver.
The CDO team also arrested one Thongkholal Haokip (30) son of Jampao Haokip of Chavangphai village, Moreh Ward No 7, who was driving the SUV bearing registration number MN06LA 6857.
A case has been registered at Moreh police station for further investigation.
Meanwhile, a combined security team destroyed poppy plants that were found growing illegally over an area of around 123 acres at Chanung Chingmang Laikot Hill Range of Kangpokpi District.
According to police reports, a combined team of NAB, NCD Imphal Sub-Zone, 7 MR, Kangpokpi District Police, Imphal East District Police, Home guard, staffers of Agriculture Department and Kangpokpi District Administration and Executive Magistrate led by SP N A Bina destroyed about 123 acres of illegal poppy fields found growing at Chanung Chingmang Laikot Hill Range on Monday.
NAB PS has registered a case in this regard.
