Arms smugglers, KCP member nabbed as search Ops continue

IMPHAL, 30th Dec: A combined team of Imphal West district police and 6 Assam Rifles apprehended two arms smugglers and recovered weapons from them on Saturday.
The nabbed arms smugglers are identified as Seilenmang Haokip (26), son of Seingam Haokip of Saitu village, Kangpokpi and Deepak Kumar (24), son of Bhusan Prasad of Motbung bazar. The combined team also recovered one M4 A1 carbine with one magazine, one M-16 rifle with one magazine, one Eeco Van (AS 12M-6067) and three mobile phones from their possession.
According to a PRO IGAR (S) statement, Keithelmanbi Battalion of 9 Sector AR in two different joint operations with state police over a period of two days apprehended two persons with a consignment of arms and one cadre of KCP (MC).
On Saturday, based on a specific input, an operation was launched at Langthabal Kunja and apprehended two individuals along with an arms consignment consisting of one M16 Assault Rifle (Factory made-USA) with a magazine, one M4 A1 Carbine (Factory made-USA) with one magazine. The apprehended individuals were transporting the consignment in a silver coloured Maruti Eeco van.
In another operation on Sunday, the battalion in a joint operation with Imphal West Commandos apprehended a cadre of KCP (MC) from Langthabal Mantrikhong area.
The cadre was involved in carrying out extortion activities and recently served an extortion demand to local contractors. All the three apprehended individuals along with the recovered items were handed over to police for further legal action, added the statement.
A police source informed that a combined team of Imphal West police commando and 6 AR led by Imphal West commando OC P Achouba conducted frisking and checking near St Robert school, Canchipur on Saturday at about 8.30pm. The combined team detected arms when an Eeco van coming from Lilong side was stopped and checked.
During initial questioning, Seilenmang who was at the wheels, disclosed that the arms were handed over to them at Moreh by one Suresh and Jiten to transport the same up to Churachandpur. Both Seilenmang and Deepak Kumar have been handed over to Singjamei police station for further action.
In another development, Imphal East district police arrested two members of outlawed KCP during a search operation Saturday. The nabbed KCP members are identified as Mayengbam Amarjit alias Shyam, 50 son of late Mangi of Singjamei Wangma Makhong Lambi and Laishram Lakpati alias Johnson, 47 son of Tomba of Khongman Lisam Leirak.
Meanwhile, in continuation of security measures taken up in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit, large number of Imphal West district police conducted search operations at Keishampat Thiyam Leikai and Keishampat Leimajam Leikai from 7am Sunday. Around 400 locals were verified one-by-one during the search and 10 PLA members out on bail were detained and handed over to Imphal police station for verification.
In another search operation conducted Sunday around Kasturi bridge and Jalan crossing under City police station, 10 people who could not produce identification document were detained and handed over to City police station for verification.
Imphal district police also conducted search operation at Kongba Uchekon from 5am Sunday wherein 215 male and 160 female residents were verified one-by-one but no arrest was made. The same team also carried out search operation at Basikhong Kajipat from 3pm Sunday but no arrest was made despite verifying around 100 male and female residents of the area.
