2 UGs nabbed, security beefed up for PM’s visit

IMPHAL, 28th Dec: Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state on January 4, Manipur police have stepped up security measures and arrested two members belonging to the proscribed RPF/PLA.
According to a police source, the two were nabbed by a team of Imphal East police commando during a search operation conducted near JNIMS main gate Friday afternoon after getting specific input about their presence in the area.
The arrested cadres are identified as Keisham Reagan alias Ibomcha, 36 son of late Gambhir and Keisham Ninju son of late Biren, both from Kongba Kshetri Leikai.
During initial questioning, the duo disclosed that they put up a star as part of outfit’s raising day on September 24 at Kongba Kshetri Leikai Meerep Pung under the instruction of one Sanakhomba of the outfit. Regan then went to Myanmar and met Sanakhomba to discuss about recruitment of cadres. Both Reagan and Ninju have been handed over to Porompat police station for further action, the source added.
Meanwhile, a combined team of Imphal East district police commando, Narcotics Cell Imphal East, Reserved Line Imphal East and Porompat police station under the command of additional SP (Ops) M Kumarjit conducted search operation at Brahmapur Mangjil Leikai Friday afternoon. No arrest could be made during the operation conducted as part of the PM’s visit. The same team of district police also evicted encroachers particularly shops opened on both sides of the road from Advance hospital crossing to Mahabali crossing. On the other-hand, a team of Imphal West district police led by additional SP (Ops) along with district police commando and Singjamei police station conducted search operation at Kwakeithel Heinoukhongnembi Thokchom Leikai and Lamdong Leikai from 7am Friday. Around 300 local residents of 100 houses were verified one-by-one during the search and six of them who could not produce identification document were detained and handed over to Singjamei police for verification.
Another team of Imphal West district police also conducted search operation in Majorkhul stretch and Thangal bazar area Friday morning from 8.30.
Around 160 people were verified one-by-one during the search operation and 16 individuals who did not possess identification document were detained and handed over to City police station for verification.
A team of Imphal West district police commando also conducted search operation along Masjid road at about 2.30pm Friday. Around 150 people were verified one-by-one during the operation and 11 individuals who could not produce identification documents were detained and handed over to City police station for verification.
