Ccpur rally protests abduction of construction worker

CCPUR, 27th Dec: Protesting the abduction of one Kaireuben (28), s/o Khailiangen of Mata village on December 21 from a worksite, a rally was taken out on Thursday from Mata village till the DC, Churachandpur office.
Kaireuben was taken captive in between Panglian village and Munhoih while he was working in the construction of Tedim Road under NHIDCL.
Thousands of people of Churachandpur district led by public leaders and functionaries of the JAC formed in connection with the abduction took part in the protest demonstration.
After marching along the Tedim road, the public leaders submitted a memorandum to the additional DC Ccpur Lalramsang for further conveyance to the chief minister.
From their side, the district administration informed them that necessary measures are being taken up to secure safe release of Kaireuben.
It is learnt that Kaireuben was abducted by some armed persons who claimed to be members of a non-SoO group Kuki armed outfit. The outfit allegedly demanded ransom money of Rs 60 lakh for his release.
On the other-hand, a joint action committee (JAC) against the kidnapping of Kai Reuben has been formed while people of Mata-Lingsiphai area submitted a memorandum to the chief minister through the DC, Churachandpur on Thursday urging the government to take up all possible measures to secure safe release of Reuben from the custody of his captors. While drawing the attention of the government, the memorandum informed that Kai Reuben, a motor grader operator (driver) was engaged in a road construction project between Churachandpur and Singngat under special contractor T Lala Vaiphei.
The road construction work along NH 102B is a project under National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd and executed by Lala Vaiphei in collaboration with M/s Satya Builders.
The memorandum signed by JAC convener S Kamboi expressed serious resentment that incidence of kidnapping for ransom has been on the rise in the district and urged the government to beef up security measures at all vulnerable areas to thwart such activities. It further cautioned that the JAC would be compelled to launch intense forms of agitation if the government fails to secure Kai Reuben’s release by 2 pm of December 28.
Zomi Students’ Federation (ZSF) also strongly condemned the abduction of Kai Reuben for extortion.
In a statement, ZSF information and publicity department decried that the abduction is not only worrisome for family members of Kai Reuben but people of Mata-Lingsiphai area are equally peeved as it happened at a time when every Christian is gearing up to celebrate Christmas.
While strongly condemning the use of kidnapping for ransom by various insurgent groups and fringe groups in the district, the release maintained that ZSF unequivocally rejects the payment of ransom to secure release of kidnapped person(s) as well.
The federation appealed to the kidnappers to release Kai Reuben unconditionally and allow him to enjoy the festive season with his family.
It also urged the law enforcement agencies in the district to do everything possible to secure his release without any further delay.
The Zillai Churachandpur district also condemned abduction of Kai Reuben and appealed to the abductors/kidnappers to release him on humanitarian ground.
The A Zillai release also appealed to district administration and law enforcement agencies to secure all vital areas, including roads and other link routes within the district for preventing recurrence of such unwanted incident and to reactivate all available forces to secure the safe release of Kai Reuben.
