JNIMS teachers take mass casual leave, stage sit-in
IMPHAL, 27th Dec: Members of Teachers’ Association JNIMS took mass casual leave and staged sit-in-protest Thursday against non-fulfilment of their seven-point demand by the government despite giving assurance.
According to association general secretary Nelson Loitongbam, the ongoing stir by JNIMS teachers will continue with complete shutdown from January 3 onwards but it would not affect students who are to appear in Manipur University exam starting from January 3 next.
Speaking to media persons on the sideline of the protest, Nelson maintained that Teachers’ Association JNIMS was compelled to launch the stir after JNIMS authority and government failed to fulfil their long standing demands. The decision to launch the stir was arrived at during a general body meet of the association held on December 14, he said adding the stir will continue till all their demands are honoured. However, the association decided that all its members will dispense normal duty for MU exam starting from January 3. The association also decided that any talk regarding their demand will only be held at the level of the chief minister who is also president of JNIMS Society, he said adding that at least one representative from affected groups will also attend the talk with government. He also appealed authority concerned to halt ongoing recruitment process for dental college faculties till settlement of the present issue. Due to the protest, OPD and operation/surgery services at JNIMS hospital were affected but casualty department opened as usual.
The demands of the association include one-time relaxation in the Time Scale Promotion Scheme to accommodate SRs/tutors/demonstrators/lady medical officers who are eligible for promotion, cancellation of previous advertisements for recruitment of assistant professors in JNIMS as agreed earlier and no further advertisement for appointment of assistant professors till settling the issue.
Other demands are absorption of tenure senior residents/tutors/demonstrators, implementation of career advancement scheme for CMOs as per RIMS CMOS Time Scale Promotion Scheme and implementation of old pension scheme for MHS doctors who joined regular service before January 1, 2005.
