State achieves target of Saubhagya scheme
IMPHAL, 20th Dec: The target for electrification of households under Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana (SAUBHAGYA) in the state has been successfully achieved as per report of REC (Rural Electrification Corporation). As per the data uploaded in REC portal, a total of 1.02 lakh households in nine divisions of the state as approved by REC under the Ministry of Power, as on Oct 2017 were electrified under the scheme. In Manipur, the scheme was jointly launched by union minister of state (IC) for power and new & renewable energy RK Singh and chief minister N Biren on September 25, 2017. The scheme provides free electricity connections to beneficiary households identified based on Socio Economic Caste Census, 2011 data.
Rural Electrification Corporation Limited (REC), a Navaratna CPSE under the ministry of power is the nodal agency for coordinating implementation of the scheme. Manipur State Power Distribution Company Ltd is the implementing agency for the state. Any beneficiary yet to be covered under the scheme will be provided electricity by March 2019 and interested individuals may contact MSPDCL office for further details.
