Two labourers abducted, police launch rescue Ops

IMPHAL, 7th Dec: Unknown armed persons abducted two labourers, who were engaged for a road construction work at Chinikon Parengbi Khuman under Bishnupur police station.
Police sources said that well-armed persons, suspected to be cadres of Kuki UG group abducted the two labourers at about 11 pm on December 4. The abducted labourers are identified as Gaidonlung Golmei (27) son of Duanlin Golmei of Barak Sibilong village and Immanuel (50) son of Illestar of Awang Khul. They were engaged in the construction of Dolang-Khoirok road.
The abduction is amid demands by different sections of the society for safe release of three labourers who were abducted from Awang Sekmai Nongthonband area on October 29 by some armed persons suspected to be Kuki UG cadres. Mention may be made here that Sekmai Protection Committee and Advance Women Society have cautioned of imposing bandh along Imphal-Dimapur highway if the three labourers abducted are not released by December 10.
Meanwhile, rescue operation carried out by state police for the three abducted labourers continued till late night at the hilltop of Phailenkot under Saparmeina police station in Kangpokpi district. The operation, which began from early morning, was carried out under the supervision of DIG K Jayanta, additional SP (Ops) Imphal West Th Krishnatombi, Imphal West CDO OC Achouba and special SP (CDO) Modhunimai. Police found a hut, which is believed to be an outpost of the UG cadres, and burned it. They also found evidences of the UG cadres spending there before fleeing on seeing the police team. Police source said that they might have fled towards Tamenglong district.
