Thailand Princess visits Kangla, meets titular king of Manipur
IMPHAL, 28th Nov: Thailand Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, who is on a maiden visit to the state in connection with Manipur Sangai Festival 2018, visited the historic Kangla fort here on Wednesday.
She was accompanied by Thailand Ambassador to India Chutintorn Gongsakdi, officials of Royal Thai Embassy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thailand; media team from Thailand and officials of Ministry of External Affairs.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Art and Culture Minister L Jayantakumar and Titular King of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba warmly received the Princess in front of Kangla Utra, wherein she had a brief interaction with them, especially with titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba, who presented gifts to the Princess.
Following the interaction, all of them went on a sightseeing tour of the fort boarding the battery-operated vehicles, designated for travelling inside Kangla. The Princess visited Kangla Museum, Shri Shri Govindaji Temple and Ibudhou Pakhangba Temple among others.
Earlier in the day, Princess Sirindhorn visited Sendra and Keibul Lamjao in Bishnupur district, wherein officials of Forest Department warmly received her. She was then taken on a sightseeing tour of the park on a boat.
Keibul Lamjao national park was off-limit for other visitors as security measures of the Princess’ visit from early morning till 2.30pm.
Mention may be made here that the Princess arrived at Imphal in a special flight on Tuesday for a two-day visit to the state. She, along with Chief Minister N Biren Singh and other dignitaries of Thailand and Manipur, witnessed the cultural programme of the ongoing Festival at Bhagyachandra Open Air Theatre (BOAT) on Tuesday evening.
