Security beefed-up ahead of Sangai Festival, 44 detained

IMPHAL, 17th Nov: Manipur police conducted cordon and search operations in different parts of the state on Saturday as part of the security measures for the upcoming Manipur Sangai Festival.
In all 44 people including seven women have been detained for further verification during the cordon and search operations.
The carried out search operation from around 4:30 to 6:20 am in between Macha Leima area to Mahabali, near Hapta Kangjeibung, the main venue of the upcoming Sangai Festival.
The search operation was conducted under the supervision of DSP (ops) RK Charles and SDPO (Lamlai) Johny and included district police commandos and women police.
In the search operation, seven women and 16 men who could not furnish identity documents were detained and handed over to Porompat police station for further verification.
The same team also conducted cordon and search operation at Brahmapur Nahabam Leikai in between 4 to 5 pm during which eight men out of 117 men and 93 women called out for verification were picked up and handed over to Porompat police station for further verification.
Strict security measures have been also taken up in Imphal West district. A search operation headed by Singjamei SDPO Amakcham Devanada was conducted by women police of Singjamei Police Station at Singjamei Super Market under Imphal West SP Haobijam Jogeshchandra from 3:30 to 4:20 pm in which out of 100 men and 50 women verified, four men were picked up and handed over for further verification to Singjamei police. Nine persons were also picked up for verification during another operation at Naoremthong Shamusang Leirak Saturday. They were handed over to Lamphel PS for further verification.
A search operation led by commando OC of Bishnupur B Lunthang Vaiphei, DSP Commando, DSP (ops), SDPO Moirang, OC of Keibul Police Station, Kumbi Police Station and Moirang Police Station was also conducted with the assistance of 42 Assam Rifles at Karang in Bishnupur district from 5.30 am till 7:30 am. In all, 205 people were lined up for the verification process while checking was carried out in 115 houses.
