Excess goods banned along Imphal-Moreh road

IMPHAL, 16th Nov: The directorate of transport has banned all sorts of vehicles carrying goods in excessive weight along the Imphal Moreh highway with immediate effect. In a notification dated November 15 issued by transport director C Arthur Worchuiyo stated that there are reports of several 207 DIs (1 tonne capacity), buses and other types of vehicles including Maruti Vans (without conversion to commercial category) transporting goods beyond permissible weightage, which is in violation of the Motor Vehicle Act. Besides, several such vehicles are operating along the route without obtaining requisite documents such as route permits, FCs, ICs, PUCs. The notification observed that irregularities committed by these vehicles amount to public nuisance and also become a deep concern on the part of law enforcing agencies for ensuring safety of human lives and public properties. Such offences will be booked and penalised under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, the notification informed while urging all concerned to cooperate and not to commit such offences with immediate effect.
