CM Biren demeans development during Cong regime
IMPHAL, 14th Nov: Coming down heavily against Congress party’s claim of bringing development during its tenure, chief minister N Biren said that the previous Congress government in the state did nothing for welfare of the people except sharing money released for contact works.
The chief minister was addressing gathering at a felicitation function organised in his honour on achieving best CM among BJP ruled states based on a survey conducted by India Today at Thambalnu market complex, Andro.
Addressing the gathering, N Biren said primary objective of a government to provide happiness to people. During the time of election, social workers and politicians seek vote so that they could serve people. However, during the tenure of the past government, there were significant difference between works executed and promises made before the election. This led people to change the driver and accordingly gave their mandate to change the system existed during the time and then came the present government, Biren added.
The past government installed defective CCTV cameras in Imphal city, non-functional traffic light signals and issued belts made of paper to police personnel but claimed of bringing development, Biren said adding that the assembly secretariat constructed during the time of Congress government was taken up after splitting money of the contract work. The then state government did not extend any help to poor and needy people nor constructed house for the poor people, he said adding that the past government had no thought of providing life with dignity to the people.
While claiming that people are witness to speedy development being brought by the present government, the chief minister said banks of Imphal river which remained unattended for 100 years has been cleansed for around 40 km and able to prevent flood. The long neglected Imphal-Jiribam road too has been developed almost fully and work on improving Churachandpur-Mizoram road is nearing completion.
The chief minister also disclosed that a project for providing drinking water to every household of the state is also included in Prime Minister’s objective and survey for the same had already been completed. DPR for the project which is estimated to cost around Rs 2600 crore had been completed and it will be tabled for discussion at a meeting of finance committee Thursday. External affairs, home affairs and water resources ministry too had given their clearance for taking up the project to be taken as joint venture of India, China and Russia, he said adding that fund for the project will be procured from New Development Bank.
In order solve traffic congestion in Imphal city, new routes would be developed from Koirengei to Manipur University and from Imphal to airport with fund from Asian Development Bank. To construct a ring road around Imphal city, Rs 800 crore would also be released by Asian Development Bank and process for the same is almost completed, Biren added.
The felicitation function was also attended by works minister Th Biswajit, education minister Th Radheshyam, social welfare minister Nemcha Kipgen, MLAs Rameshwor, Th Satyabrata and BJP leaders.
Leaders of BJP Mandal of Imphal East district presented gifts to chief minister N Biren during the event.
