Imphal noise level crosses 88 decibel on Diwali night

IMPHAL, 7th Nov: Noise level in Imphal crossed 88 decibel on November 7 night as people burst firecrackers to celebrate Diwali. Scientists and staff of Manipur Pollution Control Board installed three ambient noise level monitoring equipment at different areas of Imphal. The equipment were installed at Singjamei, Raj Bhavan and MG Avenue and noise level monitored from 6pm till midnight. At MG Avenue, noise level between 6pm to 7pm was above normal reaching 88.2 decibel but gradually reduced to 7.1 decibel between 7pm to 8pm and then to 81.7 between 8pm to 9pm. Noise level recorded at Singjamei bazar between 7pm to 7.10pm was 77.3 decibel, the highest noise level at Singjamei. Another monitoring equipment installed at Thoubal parking near Raj Bhavan recorded 76.4 decibel between 6pm to 7pm.
