Entrepreneur siblings set sight on crochet-doll business

STAFF REPORTER IMPHAL, 7th Nov: Despite having successful careers as nurses in a private hospital based outside the state, two siblings have set their minds on becoming successful entrepreneurs as crochet doll makers through their brand “Handmade Cottage”. Ukhrul-born Yungyung (29) and her sister Sovi (27) were working in a Punebased private hospital till 2015, after completion of their B Sc and M Sc Nursing courses. When they returned to Manipur, they realised that their profession did not have much scope in the state. Thus, they decided to pursue their interests, which was making crochet dolls and other handicraft products. In 2017, they set up their brand, “Handmade cottage”. In a tête-à-tête with this daily, Yungyung said that she, along with her sister, have been crocheting dolls and other handicraft items such as dream catchers, key chains, etc., that can also be used as decorative pieces under their brand. Crochet dolls lack much popularity in the state, but those who are aware of the dolls place orders through the brand’s social media accounts opened on Instagram and Facebook, as there is no outlet of Handmade Cottage at present. For customers in Imphal, their orders are delivered through courier service. The crochet dolls are also delivered to customers in Delhi, Bangalore, Pune, Kerala, Bubhaneswar, etc., she added. Yungyung further said that since establishment of the brand in 2017, more than 1000 dolls have been crocheted till date. The prices of the items range from Rs 50 to Rs 1000, she informed. Interestingly, despite having embarked on the road of entrepreneurship, Yungyung is yet to avail any help from the government. However, she and her sister have made it their goal to become successful crochet doll entrepreneurs.
