JCILPS demands ordinance pending Prez’s consent

IMPHAL, 2nd Nov: Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has demanded the state government to start implementation of Manipur People’s Protection Bill 2018 as ordinance while waiting for the President’s approval.
Addressing media persons at the committee office here Friday, JCILPS convener Yumnamcha Dilipkumar said that the committee will pursue the matter till the act is implemented as the threat from influx of non-locals is still alive and the state government is merely waiting for approval of the President. Moreover, the threat has increased manifold in the wake of Assam government publishing the final list of NRC. As such, the government must implement the bill as ordinance while waiting for the President’s consent, he said, while informing that the committee submitted a memorandum in this regard to the chief minister on Friday.
The demands enumerated in the memorandum include establishment of Manipur State Population Commission and reformation of the MLRLR Act, he added.
The memorandum also include demand for early release of fund for construction of a memorial complex at the final resting place of Sapam Robinhood at Awa Ching in Imphal East as agreed by the government on September 1, 2015, Dilipkumar revealed.
